Bear the Astronot’s “Grand Canyon (Retouched)”: A Tribute to His Unique Upbringing

Bear the Astronot, who spent the first 18 years of his life in the Grand Canyon National Park and the Navajo Reservation, revisits his roots with the remixed and remastered project “Grand Canyon (Retouched).” Originally released in 2015 as a two-part series, this ambitious project was created in just two months, encompassing 35 songs and spoken word pieces. Thirteen tracks were chosen for “Grand Canyon (Retouched)” and re-released in 2020, with remaining tracks either released as singles or included in “Grand Canyon Chapter 2,” available exclusively at BeartheAstronot.com.

In 2015, Bear set out to honor his unique childhood in the Southwest with an eclectic musical dedication. The project captures the raw, imperfect feel of rapid creation, with many songs featuring one-take verses and hooks, produced quickly and authentically. This project is a testament to Bear the Astronot’s deep connection to his upbringing and the cultural heritage of Northern Arizona.

Creating “Grand Canyon”

Bear the Astronot’s creation of “Grand Canyon” was a whirlwind endeavor, resulting in an impressive body of work that reflects his life experiences. The project’s authenticity lies in its imperfections, mirroring the spontaneous and unrefined beauty of the Grand Canyon and the Navajo Reservation. Each song and spoken word piece serves as a tribute to the landscapes and communities that shaped Bear’s formative years.

The 2020 remixed and remastered “Grand Canyon (Retouched)” offers a polished yet still deeply personal listening experience, allowing old and new fans to appreciate Bear the Astronot’s homage to his roots. The project’s rapid production timeline and heartfelt content highlight Bear’s passion for his craft and his dedication to sharing his unique story through music.
