Writing Songs To Storms — Bear Cole
Writing Songs To Storms is a heartfelt, introspective album from Bear Cole, bringing together a carefully curated collection of songs pulled from several of his previously released projects. While many listeners first discovered Bear Cole through his work as an underground MC and lyricist under the name Bear the Astronot, or through his long history as an Electronic Dance Music producer and DJ, this album represents something far more personal and vulnerable.
For much of his career, Bear Cole’s music lived in the worlds of Hip-Hop, electronic, and instrumental production—spaces where rhythm, texture, and lyrical precision took center stage. But when he began releasing music under his actual name, Bear Cole made a conscious decision to step outside those comfort zones. He wanted to explore a side of himself that had always been present but largely unexpressed: a deep love for singer-songwriter music, emotional storytelling, and country-influenced songwriting, paired with a curiosity about simple, honest pop song structures.
Writing Songs To Storms captures that moment of transition. Rather than presenting a brand-new batch of recordings, the album selects the songs that most effectively reflect the sound Bear Cole has been working toward—songs originally released across projects like Alabaster and Love in the Time of A.I. that best embody this new creative direction. The result is a cohesive listening experience that feels intentional, reflective, and emotionally grounded.
A New Sound, Built From Many Influences
On this album, Bear Cole blends singer-songwriter sensibilities with elements of pop, country, rock, electronic music, and even traces of his Hip-Hop roots. Acoustic guitars, intimate vocals, and stripped-down arrangements sit alongside subtle production touches, creating songs that feel personal without being overly polished. These are tracks built around emotion, vulnerability, and lived experience rather than technical perfection.
Fans of singer-songwriter music, pop love songs, emotional acoustic recordings, and country-influenced storytelling will find plenty to connect with here. The songwriting explores love, loss, personal struggle, resilience, and observations drawn from the experiences of people around him—often delivered with a raw honesty that feels closer to a journal entry than a traditional studio release.
Bear Cole is open about the risks involved in making this album.
“I have never had any training as a singer and am much more experienced and comfortable as a rapper and producer. This is definitely new territory for me, but it was how I wanted to express myself. I hope you enjoy this collection of songs. If you keep listening, I’ll keep trying to get better. I was much better at writing songs about my own life and experiences before, but in these songs I tried to just be a vessel. I sat down, wrote music and lyrics, and didn’t think too much about optics or anything else. It felt great. ”
That honesty defines Writing Songs To Storms. It’s not an album chasing trends or perfection—it’s about growth, exploration, and empathy.

Love songs, songs about pain, and songs shaped by real experiences come together here in a collection that marks a bold and honest shift in his artistic path. Don’t worry there is still plenty of dance music and Hip-Hop on the horizon as well.
“Why not make it all while you have the opportunity?” says Bear Cole. “I am a DIY and Independent artist for this exact reason. I have the ability to grow and change and express myself as I want. I hope that the lyrics and emotion of these songs resonate with other people that are going through similar storms. We are ll going through storms, and this is how I weather them. I hope they help somebody else weather their storms too.”
